Luis Serrano

Graduated from the National Ballet School of Cuba with the title of Dancer-Teacher in 1991.

Began his career as a professional dancer at the National Ballet of Cuba and later was hired by 

Nina Novak” Ballet Clasico de Camara”  in Caracas  (1992-1994).

Principal dancer at the Teatro Teresa Carreño / National Ballet of Caracas (1994-1998).

Principal dancer at Miami City Ballet (1998-2007).

He has performed leading roles in major classical ballets such as Don Quixote, Diana and Actaeon, Paquita, Corsaire, Coppelia, La Bayadere, La Fille Mal Gardee, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Giselle, Raymonda, Romeo and Juliet Pas de Deux, Esmeralda, Flames of Paris, and pieces by renowned choreographers such as Vicente Nebrada, George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor, Edward Villella, and many more, including Allegro Brillante, Bugaku, Donizetti Variations, Symphony in C, Raymonda Variations, The Nutcracker (Balanchine), Prodigal Son, Ballo della Regina, Who Cares?, Sylvia Pas de Deux, Rubies, Dances at the Gathering, Funny Papers, Fancy Free, Nine Sinatra Songs, Push Come to Shove, Piazzolla Caldera, Dolls, Company B, Ballroom, Gismonti Brasil, Carmen, among others.

In addition to his work as a dancer, he has excelled as a teacher for various schools in the United States, Venezuela, and Mexico, such as the Teresa Carreño Theater School, Tiwy City Ballet, Miami City Ballet School, and Monterrey School of Music and Dance.

Throughout his career, he has received various awards and recognitions, such as the Bronze Medal at the USA International Ballet Competition in 1998, Municipal Dance Award for Best Classical Dancer in Venezuela 1996, "Casa del Artista" Award for Best Classical Dancer in Venezuela 1996-1997, First Finalist at the International Competition in Paris 1992, Gold Medal at the UNEAC Competition in Havana, Cuba 1991.

For his outstanding performance as a dancer, he was invited to participate in prestigious international events such as the Gala of the 25th Anniversary of the USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi 2004, Ballet Gala Hawaii, USA 2003, International Festival of Havana, Cuba 1996 and 1997, International Festival of San Francisco, USA 1995, International Festival of Macao, China, in 1994, among others.

During his 7 years (2007-2014) as Artistic Director of the Monterrey Ballet, he staged major classical works such as Giselle, The Nutcracker, Coppelia, Don Quixote, La Bayadere, The Nutcracker, and Swan Lake, the latter two awarded with the Lunas del Auditorio.

Choreographies of his own authorship include "Nicotine" (solo), "Minuet" (solo), "Romance" Pas de Deux, and "Perfidia," the last two presented by the Miami City Ballet, "Schubert," "Celebration," "Arvo," "Huapango," a piece that became the signature of BdM and premiered at the Joyce Theatre in New York in 2008, "Synergy," a choreography that shows the union of forces, rhythms, and movements. His most recent works are "Danzon" and "Intermezzo," pieces that are part of the ballet "Mexican Mosaic" created especially for the first European tour of the Monterrey Ballet in March 2011.

In 2015, he created his personal projects Luis Serrano Dance Studio and Luis Serrano Personal Training.

In 2019, he was invited by the Board of the Monterrey Ballet as Interim Artistic Director, where he remained until 2021.

Currently, he is the Artistic Director of Alchemy Ballet Company in Herndon, VA, and continues with his personal projects Luis Serrano Dance Studio and Luis Serrano Personal Training.
